A friend in Indonesia who works on the ground in West Papua for an NGO, sent me this article:My friend asked me for a song for West Papua to highlight the conflict and role of the forest people who protect their forests against global interests in palm oil and mining, but never could write anything.
When I read the article below, it was clear, I had to write a lullaby for these children, and children around the world who are afraid and can't sleep. Who might be on the run or in a refugee camp, who have been bombed, their families taken. What could I say to a child in fear? The only thing that felt true was to write a lullaby, that the birds will still be singing in the morning, the trees will still stand and the world will keep turning.
As I sang, I felt Mother Earth singing to her children, the inner children, and a real child in Nduga sleeping before me.
