Rave Child - Oceans (Original Mix)

As a new name enters the underground dance scene, one of the industry's most-respected and highly regarded modern producers sits behind the exciting Rave Child moniker. Now, debuting on Proton Music, with an outstanding twin-track original offering, "Oceans of Imagination" fire the auditory synapses in sparkling fashion.

Production soubriquets are a commonplace occurrence in the world of dance of music. Providing the anonymity and opportunity to express artistic creativity from a blank canvas, uninhibited by the weight of expectation that comes from the use of a familiar name, can be a powerful artistic force. Thus, a nom de plume provides the perfect vehicle to construct a new creative vision through rhythm and music. To this end, Rave Child and his "Oceans of Imagination" excels, introducing a fresh and vibrant name to the underground dance scene with an important and highly relevant message to impart.

A twin-track concept EP, "Oceans of Imagination" was written, based upon the state of the world's seas brought about through global warming and societal disinterest. The tandem processes of constant thermal expansion and melting polar ice caps, leads to ever-rising sea levels and a problem of paramount importance to our planet's future. Humanity must transform and adapt. Too often, however, lives are led in an insular bubble, lost in an 'imaginary' world and focused on the here and now. A generation glued to glass screens see lives measured in trite affectations and meaningless affirmations, oblivious and uncaring to the world's plight that requires immediate action. Government policies are replete with 'damned lies and statistics' and piecemeal change tantamount to wilful negligence. A revolution in thoughts and deeds is needed.

Opening track, "Imaginary", immediately hits a sombre techno stride with a huge beat that thumps through the ribcage with low-end presence aplenty. Evolving cleverly, a stuttered beat and a raft of percussive intricacy hit their dance floor mark through metronomic layers of hi-hat urgency. A cavernous bass anchors itself to the dynamic rhythmic section as a filtered melodic sequence gradually develops in the foreground to mesmerising and hypnotising effect, reaching its zenith in a sumptuous breakdown. Drawing to a thrilling denouement, a huge drop then brings back the rhythmic elements in the third movement, driving relentlessly forwards and creating a work that is certain to fill dance floors across the globe.

Partner track, "Oceans" continues the galloping techno themes of its predecessor as a seismic kick creates a running pattern that ties in perfect unison to an arpeggio bass riff. White-noise effects rise and fall in waves, creating dynamic interest, breaking up the relentless beats before chord changes and an evocative melodic progression juxtaposes subtlety and grace in highly intelligent fashion. Rippling outwards, a musical crescendo is reached at the breakdown before the tireless beats once more emerge, allied to a crunching metallic chord that jars the listener out of their reverie in scintillating fashion.

A new name enters the techno fray and Rave Child rides a voyage of discovery on "Oceans of Imagination".
