Echoes Of War

A re-imagining of the score to Andy Robinson's touching short, Seasons Of War – a film created especially to promote the unofficial Doctor Who anthology of the same name. Itself an inspired and enormous piece of work, pulled together with blood, sweat, body parts, inspiration and talented sheer determination by editor Declan May, along with polymathic creative director Simon Brett, to raise funds for the amazing work of the charity, Caudwell Children. I have lost track of just how many writers from all over the Whoniverse have contributed to the book, but you will want it if you like Who. You will. Exploring as it does an entire chapter of the Doctor's lore that no-one officially knows – the years of the War Doctor, portrayed wonderfully by Sir John Hurt in the television show's fiftieth anniversary special. What a lot of creative possibilities, if this sort of thing is your sort of thing.

For me, on the fringes of the endeavour, I simply loved the chance to write a score like this. I'm always saying less is more in film – get rid of half the music you've left in. Then this comes along – an almost dream sequence of a story told entirely in voice over, requiring wall-to-wall music. ..So I just thought "ahh, what the hell" and threw the kitchen sink at it.

This mix adds another dimension to the proceedings with a big boofing beats bit at the back end. All a bit of a curio for fans of the film, which includes me.
