RAIN AND TEARS

Vocal, classical guitar, keyboard: David Gersten. "Rain and Tears" was inspired by the poetry of Robin Easton, poet and author of "Naked in Eden: Healing and Transformation in the Australian Rainforest." As I read one of her poems on Facebook, I was quite moved and the music started to flow. I tried to make this song as true to Robin's life and journey as possible. About 90% of the words are hers, which I shuffled around, re-worked them, and moved the poetry form into song form. I'll share the lyrics here:

I throw the covers back and rise from bed
Sometimes your agony just fills my head
Barefoot I tiptoe through moonbeams on the floor
I turn the handle and open up the door

Still as a statue I stand and wait
I hear your hopeful calls from far away
Clouds drift past the moon and stars
I pray for you no matter where you are

I hear your cries …In my midnight tired mind
Raindrops wait for me…Tears are running free
I stand alone…With the grace of rain and tears
I am at home…As I taste the rain and tears

The wind joins in tugging at my clothes
My hair is wet, and I’ve got muddy toes
Coyotes howl their ancient song
Here I stand where I belong

I hear your cries …In my midnight tired mind
Raindrops wait for me…Tears are running free
I stand alone…With the grace of rain and tears
I am at home…As I taste the rain and tears

I’m bathed in the soft moonlight
Under the stars I feel alive
And I’m still as a statue, still as a statue
My barefoot feet are planted on the forest floor
I keep on letting go, then letting go some more
