Not going to lie. Every song of Ariana's new album is a straight banger! It was hard to even chose which one I would cover, but in the end, I settled for "motive" as it is so far my favorite song. It was honestly a challenge creating it, but in the end, I really like the result!

What makes it Spicy?

Throughout several points in the song, I added some licks and phrases to give it my own feel. For example, midway through the first verse, I do a series of double stops on the guitar that lead really well into the next lyrics.

I also did a small amount of reharmonization of the chords. For example, instead of going to the C#diminished after each pass, I opted out for a D - Emin- F#min in the Chorus. There were a few others places as well such as going into the pre-chorus, where I played a minor seven, or a Amin7.

As always, instead of using generic open chord voicings, I instead used more complex shapes that give the song more energy and life. An example would be the first chord, the Amin. Instead of a normal Amin shape, I chose to either play a Amin7(add11), Amin9, or Amin13. This goes for all the chords in the song. Take a look and notice I don’t use a single open voicing (maybe I did once, but wither way, its not common).
